Jackson Summer Band Program 2025


The 66th annual Jackson Summer Band Program will take place at the Middle School at Parkside, beginning Monday, June 9th, and concluding Friday June 27th. Courses will consist of one 55-minute session per day, Monday through Friday. Instruments will be furnished if needed and classes will be open to all area students, grades 4 through 12, including those from surrounding districts. Tuition is $100 per class. (Summer Band may be canceled if there is a lack of enrollment). Students are welcome to the free lunch typically offered during the lunch hour in the café.

Course Descriptions

Beginning Percussion – Class study of snare drum, bass drum, and bells. No experience necessary.

Intermediate Percussion - Same as above with increased difficulty. One year of experience necessary.

Advanced Percussion – Advanced study of marching percussion. For 2+ years of experience. 

Beginning Band – Class study of wind instruments (woodwind & brass) for students with no previous instrumental music experience, or for students who wish to study a “second” instrument. Instructors will demonstrate instruments and advise students as to most appropriate selection. 

Intermediate Band – For students who have 6 months through 1 year of experience on their instrument.

Advanced Band – For students who have more than 1 year of experience on their instrument. 

Independent Study – These small classes utilize an individualized, diagnostic-type approach, well suited for self-motivated students who wish to work at their own pace. For those who wish to improve specific skills.

Jazz Band – Two years experience or director recommendation required, or audition on Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano/Keyboard, Electric or String Bass, Drum Set.

Detach and return the registration form to the Middle School at Parkside Band Room, 2400 Fourth Street, Jackson, MI 49203. Please enclose a check or money order for the full fee (if possible), made payable to Jackson Public Schools. We will not cash them until five (5) days after summer band begins. A deposit of $20 or more is required to hold a spot. Please attend class on June 9th at the time you have selected. You will not be notified of acceptance.
